Creator Infinity Mirror DIY Lighting Illusion
Step into the World of Endless Light: Build an Infinity Mirror and Watch as Light Dives into the Unknown! Construct a mesmerizing mirror that appears to extend into infinity! This captivating optical illusion is crafted from simple components, including LED lights and a mirror backing. Don't expect to see your reflection; instead, lose yourself in an endless tunnel of light. A fantastic weekend project for all ages and an eye-catching addition to your home decor. The "infinity mirror" illusion is created by two or more parallel mirrors, generating a series of ever-shrinking reflections that seem to recede into infinity. Often featured in home decor as accents or artwork, this effect is achieved by placing lights (typically LEDs) around the edge of a fully reflective mirror and positioning a second, partially reflective mirror – also known as a one-way mirror – a short distance away in parallel alignment. This setup ensures a straight view of the illusion disappearing into infinity. However, if the alignment is not perfectly parallel, the viewer will see the illusion curve off to one side. This effect can also be observed when standing between two parallel, fully reflective mirrors, such as facing mirrors above bathroom sinks. The illusion is created by light beams bouncing between the reflective surfaces, with each successive reflection adding the perception of distance traveled. This series of repeating images is known as Gabriel's Horn or Torricelli's Trumpet.
